Baybayin Alive

Perla Daly
close
info:
Explore the living beauty of the baybayin and discover how Philippine ancients thought within an indigenous worldview; share how baybayin writing symbols and other writing symbols and symbolism around the world have deeper meaning. The baybayin is an ancient writing system used in the Philippines before Western colonization. For modern Filipinos, discovering the mere existence of the baybayin is like discovering a missing piece of their cultural identity. Delving into baybayin meaning is one way that we Filipinos can reclaim the ancient beauty of our ancestors that is deeply embedded within our Filipino identities and our human existence.

Marla Viray, 23, is a journalist who always dreams anew. That is, upon the fulfillment of dreams previously pursued. She is now venturing into business journalism as a news writer for SNL Financial, an international business news provider with a Philippine office in Makati City. But that doesn’t mean she bade goodbye to her dear hometown altogether. She takes the five-hour bus ride from Manila to Pangasinan almost every weekend, just to eat the best ‘lutong bahay’ her mom prepares, spend precious time with family, laugh with friends, have breakfast in the garden, play with her dogs, jog, and many more. She still tries to contribute news features to the Philippine Daily Inquirer, even after resigning from her post as a northern Luzon correspondent. She previously served as a journalism instructor at Lyceum-Northwestern University in Dagupan City and greatly treasures the experience, including memories with her students there. =)This blog keeps her remembrances readily accessible, her experiences stored, her smile ever present.

Poeta y Diwata

Barbara Jane Reyes
close
info:
I shy away from the word “Activist,” but wholeheartedly believe my work is “Political.” I believe when a Pinay writes, and she is the subject of her own narratives, then she is subverting those master narratives which have figured her as a voiceless and passive object. As a poet, I believe in using to the fullest potential form, punctuation, the page, and language; I believe in remodeling the master’s house using the master’s tools. I believe in subverting the master’s literary forms and art disciplines by simultaneously insinuating and forcing into his forms my own base of cultural and historical knowledge, thus contributing to the hybridizing and mongrelizing of what once was culturally exclusive. And finally, I believe in publishing, creating and leaving tangible evidence of our words, voices, and visions.

Swirling Thoughts

Mela
close
info:
Life experiences are like sentences - we are always looking for the full stop, the conclusion. It's OK to end a train of thought, but not thought itself. Thoughts are the beginning of our creation and are here to be creative. Thoughts are like the magic carpet on which the soul rides across eternity - in reality, there are no endings, no conclusions. Rest for the spirit (which is what we are) is when we allow only the current of the purest thoughts to flow through our mind - thoughts which carry good wishes and blessings for ourselves and others. This is not so much going with the flow, as being in the flow, and being refreshed by the flow. It is how we refresh ourselves. For when we have powerful, positive thoughts for and about others, who experiences them first?

We want you to share as we share, vent as we vent, about the struggles we've all had due to the booming imperative (and dangerous) persuasion of the media. It's time to be REALLY comfortable in your own skin. What's the big, fat deal anyway?! Let everything bulge out! info:
The ecomomwarrior site came to fruition after many years of self education about the state of mother earth and ultimately the encouragement of friends. As a mother of an almost four year old in New York City, I have witnessed first hand the environmental abuse that occurs on a daily basis and quite honestly depresses me to no end.ecomomwarrior as a phrase, speaks for itself and can be attained by any person, given the patience and will. We can all be eco warriors as long as we dedicate a life style that honors, appreciates and respects Mother Earth. We need to unlearn behaviors that society has forced onto us. We can all be eco moms; teach our children and our children’s children that we are the change that we want to be.This may sound like a bunch of crazy talk but if this site reaches one person and educates them to change their way of thinking or way of life then it is worth the rantings.
