Aussie Pinay actress and TV variety show host Anne Curtis, 29, is all grown up, and making waves in the international front. Since she started in show business in 1997, she has taken on different roles, and with that a big following. She is the most followed Filipina celebrity on Twitter.

In her latest salvo, Curtis portrays a vampire in the Indie movie “Blood Ransom.” This is her first foray into an international project. This month, the movie has been shown in selected theaters in Los Angeles, California and New York.

In the movie, Curtis plays a lonely rich orphan named Crystal who joins a syndicate of vampires led by Roman (Caleb Hunt). As head of the pack, Roman dictates her way of life and expects her to choose the path to immortality.

The film setting is 21st century, in West Covina, Los Angeles County, California. The cops are on the trail of missing people that they believe were abducted by the vampires. Enter Jeremiah (Alexander Dreymon) who gets hired by Roman to be Crystal’s driver. Roman hopes Crystal would kill the driver to make her vampire transformation complete.

Complication however ensues when Crystal and Jeremiah fall in love and she gets kidnapped by two of Jeremiah’s friends who are asking for ransom. Roman gets wind of it and sends off his hit man to get her back. But Crystal is rescued by Jeremiah, and she insists that they elope instead of her returning to Roman.

The plot thickens as Crystal must choose whether to kill herself to end her agonizing hunger or kill Jeremiah so she will live forever. In the course of the movie, they are enlightened with an option by a seer who advises them to kill Roman and mix his blood with holy water in a vial that Crystal has to drink to reverse the curse so she can go back to being human. The two do just that. Jeremiah gets killed though in the process but Crystal saves her. Jeremiah wakes up like everything was a dream and Crystal walks the road in broad daylight alone, all by herself.

This is not the first time Curtis ventured into a fantasy genre. Her fans remember her as a mermaid in the ABS-CBN TV series remake of Mars Ravelo’s “Dyesebel.” Prior to that, she also donned the role of a deity of the earth, air and water in “Dyosa.” What probably comes closest to this latest role that she has played was her character as demon child, in the horror movie “Ika-13 Kapitulo.”

Curtis has gone a long way from her girlie days on teen series “TGIS” and from supporting roles to starring roles. In “Baler” she won her first acting award as an adult actress playing a guerilla in a movie that looks back at Spain’s occupation of the Philippines. She received box office acclaim later in the movie “No Other Woman” where she was a mistress in a love triangle with phenomenal dialogues. She has become a favorite host in the daily noontime show “It’s Showtime!” She is also now a recording artist and a concert performer.

With her take on Crystal in “Blood Ransom,” Curtis was able to inject her natural sexiness to an action-horror role. She has shown that she has what it takes to be an international star. More Pinoy movies and teleseryes are in store for her but she has expressed hopes for another international project like this. Her number one love, however, is her hosting job on the daily noontime TV variety show where is she is always perky and sweet. We can only keep watching as Anne Curtis continues to aim for more success and make Pinays all over the world proud that she is a kababayan.
